WHAT THE CUP?! Saving the planet one cycle at a time.

One of my big New Year’s resolutions is to be more environmentally friendly. I strongly feel it’s our responsibility as humans to protect the planet. Who do we think we are?! Why are we using plastic all the time? Why do we think landfills won’t get too full? Why do we think wasting is ok? Too much packaging and too many products all end up somewhere. What we throw out will come right back in our face! Nothing just disappears for good.

With that being said, I was trying to come up with ways to save the planet because if everyone made simple, small moves we would all make a difference. I decided to try to not to throw any plastic products away. Plastic can last 500 years so every wrapper, fork, plate, package, etc. will last 5-6 lifetimes!! You might use a plastic wrapper for one quick second, but its destruction is far-reaching and long lasting. I now reuse plastic spoons and forks over and over again. I also use glassware for my dinners at work instead of going out to dinner all the time because restaurants often use styrofoam to-go cartons and they put it all in plastic bags. So eating my own food in a reusable glass container will save in packaging.

What I never thought about but it’s definitely worth considering is my monthly tampon tossing. I apologize for the TMI but throwing out tampons is also damaging the environment. I recently started hearing about Lunette menstrual cups and wondered what in the world?! As I did more research I learned that one cup can lasts years and years so it’s a real money saver! It’s also a real planet saver! You won’t have to throw out a bunch of tampons several times a day because you’ll have a cup that you can just clean out and keep reusing. It all sounds very nice for the environment, for your health and for your pocketbook, but how the heck does it work?! The kind folks at Lunette sent me one to test it out. I actually haven’t tried it yet and I guess I have to wait a bit for the appropriate timing (if you know what I mean.) I’m nervous. But I feel like it’s the right thing to do. So here’s to a new year to doing whatever it takes to save our precious planet… even if that means changing up my cycle!

What makes Lunette different than the others? Lunette is shorter, making it less obtrusive, yet, it holds the same amount. It’s also made of softer silicone and the rim is smoother. This makes for much more of a comfy fit for any shaped va-jay-jay. The air-holes are bigger, which makes it easy to clean. The stem is solid yet thin, soft and flexible. Lunette also comes in crazy colors because well, fun is how they flow!

7 MORE Reasons to Love Lunette:

1) Small but Mighty

Lunette can hold more liquid than a tampon and only needs to be emptied a few times a day. Simply fold and insert for an easy, more effective alternative to any other feminine products.

2) Safe & Healthy

Unlike tampons, Lunette doesn’t disrupt the vagina’s natural lubricating ability. It also won’t ever “over-absorb” or interfere with the natural shedding process. Lunette allows for a safe and simple capture of menstrual fluid.

3) Cleans Up Nice

It goes in just as smoothly as it comes out. It cleans up nice too. Since Lunette does not have writing on the inside (like others) it can be cleaned without any crud. You can boil it in water for a few minutes or simply clean your menstrual cup with Lunette’s disinfecting wipes or wash.

4) Saves Cash Flow

The average woman spends nearly $100 a year on disposable tampons and pads and they buy about 17,000 in a lifetime. Lunette is a one-time cost that’ll last you years! Spend the money you save on a cute thong bikini. Why a thong, you may ask? Because YOU CAN!

5) A Fan Favorite

Literally. The votes are in and everyone loves Lunette. Lunette won the Key Flag Emblem, a certification of only the highest quality products in its homeland of Finland.

6) Protects the Planet

Tampons are for tossers. Stop ruining the planet, one period at a time. From the box made of recycled material to the environmentally-friendly factory where Lunette’s cups are born – this product is a planet-saver! Since it will last you years you won’t leave a flow “footprint.” By the way, flushing sanitary products cause 75% of blocked drains. GROSS!

7) Sleep Naked

Seriously, you can. No strings attached means nothing will be hanging around and trying to play peek-a-boo. It’s a lady’s best kept secret that can be worn during handstands, high kicks, even hanky panky (of the oral variety).
