Raising $$ and Run for Huntington’s Disease!

Chris and I are really excited to be running the SD Half Marathon this year on Sunday, March 13th. I’ve ran this course many times but this time I’m running for Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA.) I want to raise money to finally CURE this disease once and for all. Funding is always a huge factor, which is why any little bit helps.

I want to explain why this cause is so important. A really nice man Bill Johnston is the PR/Marketing director of the San Diego Chargers. And of course, I’m A HUGE FAN of the Chargers but I’m also a news anchor which means I bug Bill A LOT. He has helped me set up some great stories with Chargers players like Jahleel Addae, Eric Weddle (when he was a Charger) and all of the great things the Chargers do for the community including supporting military families. He also helped me set up stories with the Chargers Girls. He’s the guy who works hard behind the scenes to arrange everything for us media folks and he answers our MANY questions, calls, and emails. I learned that Bill has been going through an unimaginable challenge. His wife, Ramona was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease in 1999. Ever since then, Bill and his daughter, Hayley have been doing anything they can to stop this disease. Ramona is now unable to talk, walk, eat (independently) or do any of the common things we all may take for granted. As Hayley describes it, HD “robs” people of the things we all should be able to do. Every year Bill and Hayley run their hearts out for this amazing woman.

You should definitely watch this to see what I mean…

Bill and Hayley pushed Ramona for 26.2 miles so that she can experience a marathon and cross a finish line! Since Bill and Hayley do this to help find a cure so that no other families have to go through what they face daily, I figure the least we can do is show our support.

This year they will be running the SD Half Marathon and they have asked anyone who would like to join them to create a fundraising page and support this great mission. I only hope my running and this fundraising page can do a little bit to help out this amazing family. If you are touched by this story, click here and donate. Your kindness and generosity is very much appreciated! All proceeds will go towards HDSA’s fight to improve the lives of everyone affected by HD.  For more information on HD and HDSA San Diego click here.

Also, come run the SD Half Marathon with us!! It’s a great course that starts at the Gaslamp District (near Petco Park) and goes along Harbor Dr. then up to Balboa Park, ending at the Gaslamp. It’s also really well-organized with a great pre-race expo Downtown. Chris and I wouldn’t miss it and I don’t think you should either!
