Who doesn’t want to look like a ballerina? Take a look around at classes like The Dailey Method, The Bar Method, and Pilates and it’s as if all the women came from the same perfect mold. Long. Lean. GORGEOUS! Ok, I’ll have what they’re having.
My dear friend and former co-worker, Kimi Evans invited me to her studio, Pilates Plus in PB. She is one of those perfect molds. In fact, she may have the bod the molds were shaped after. Kimi owns two pilates studios in the San Diego area because she likes what pilates does for her body and for her clients. She says its the healthiest way to train hard, from the core out. Very rarely do you hear of someone popping a kneecap or getting plantar fasciitis on a Pilates reformer.
Her class was unique because she incorporated the TRX in between reformer rounds. We were doing core work like I had never done before. It hurt and then it burned. Every time I thought we would be stopping, she kept pushing us and I thought my abs would catch fire. I was pushed beyond what I could do on my own. Then we jumped to leg work and again, on fire! I actually started feeling nauseous which as you may know, is the best sign that you’ve officially kicked butt. So I proudly, lied down on the bathroom floor. Very glamorous, I know. But I felt like I had earned it. Kimi taught perfect form and like a good coach, she wouldn’t stop demanding better posture. I felt strong, sore, and exhausted all from a class that I initially though would be a cinch.
There were no heavy weights, high knees, sprints, or long endurance rides instead there was a lot of small motions that hurt like heck and I still sweated and squealed like a crazy person. You know what that means? I’ll be back for more!
See what I mean, it was HARD!
