As Missy Elliott once said “Flip It and Reverse It!” I don’t think she had as PG of a meaning behind her words as I do, but when helping to heal my back her words resonate. I have been feeling very tight all along my spine. I literally “snap, crackle, pop” every time I stretch my back. Since I’m not 105 years old, I decided I need to do something about this.
So I went to my favorite spot and did some yoga.
I’m not a yoga instructor (yet… I’m still saving $$ to take an instructor course) but I can work my way through sun salutations and warrior poses. I often find a flow that feels right for my body at the time. Today, my flow involved a lot of lower back stretches. Bending forward and just hanging my torso upside down seemed to feel the best. I felt like my spine needed be pulled apart like an accordion.
So when I got home I did what most kids do. Hand stands! I can’t tell you how good it felt to hang upside down! When I would tighten my core, I could hold my legs away from the wall for a few seconds. It still felt super, duper good just leaning against the wall too. Something about allowing the vertebrae to separate this way brought me so much bliss!
I also used my Wildfire Fitness App (blog post on that coming soon) and took part in a “Happy Back” yoga class at Prana Studio. This was another class that encouraged a lot of “flipping” and “reversing.” So Missy, not sure if you ever thought your song would help alleviate back pain, but it sure has!
YOUR TURN! Try to hang out and let me know how it feels…. I love to hear from you!
